The AVOCADO Foundation Awarded £1.5 Million Grant to Tackle Economic Inequality Among BAMER-Led Non-Profits in London
The AVOCADO Foundation, a leading advocate for economic equality, is proud to announce the award of a transformative £1.5 million grant from the City Bridge Foundation. This substantial funding, distributed over ten years, will provide essential core support for its vital work to Black, Asian, Multi-Ethnic, and Refugee (BAMER)-led non- profits across London, equipping them with the resources, skills, and networks required to drive sustainable change.
.
A Decade-Long Commitment to Eradicating Economic Inequality
The City Bridge Foundation’s grant will strengthen The AVOCADO Foundation’s Infrastructure Support Programme, focusing on:
- Financial Stability and Long-term Planning: Reducing reliance on short-term funding, allowing BAMER-led non-profits to plan sustainably and build wealth.
- Talent Retention and Empowerment: Attracting and retaining skilled talent, and reducing discriminatory practices in funding, thus improving access to resources and networks.
- Digital Empowerment and Collaboration: Narrowing the digital divide and enhancing BAMER-led nonprofits’ ability to leverage technology, increasing reach, impact, and collaborative opportunities.
Carol Akiwumi MBE, Founder and CEO of The AVOCADO Foundation, expressed her gratitude and optimism:
“This generous grant from the City Bridge Foundation underscores the importance of long-term funding in tackling economic inequity. It will enable us to expand capacity building programs for BAMER-led organisations, challenge discriminatory practices, and invest in digital literacy to empower communities with modern financial tools. We’ll also develop more culturally sensitive programs to build trust and advocate for policies that promote financial health for underserved communities.”
Building a Fairer Future
This grant signifies a shared commitment to inclusivity and dismantling structural inequality in London. By strengthening BAMER-led non-profits, The AVOCADO Foundation aims to create a ripple effect of positive change that uplifts individuals, families, and entire communities.
Simon Latham, Acting Managing Director of the City Bridge Foundation, added:
“We are delighted to support The AVOCADO Foundation in their mission to foster economic equality and strengthen BAMER-led organisations. This grant represents our shared vision of building sustainable, impactful solutions to inequality.”
