What is The Big Give Christmas Challenge?
The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK’s largest matched funding campaign, where your donations can be doubled, helping us to make a bigger impact.
How does it work?
The process begins with asking our incredible supporters, like you, to become Pledgers. If we reach our first pledge target of £2,197.25 by 8th September 2024, we become eligible to participate in the challenge.
Campaign Dates
This year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge runs from midday Tuesday, December 3rd to midday Tuesday, December 10th, 2024. Any funds raised from online donations received during this period will be matched by our pledges.
How Your Pledge Works
No pledge money will be collected until the Big Give Christmas Challenge concludes, and the amount you are asked to provide will never exceed your pledged sum. Your pledge is conditional on us receiving the corresponding online donations during the campaign. If we don’t reach our online fundraising target, Pledgers will only need to contribute a proportional amount of their pledge. This is our promise to you, demonstrating our commitment to securing additional donations.
Funds raised can be doubled again through generous donations from The Big Give’s Charity Champions, maximising the impact of your support.
Important Note for Pledgers
If you make a pledge to the AVOCADO Foundation, you won’t be able to donate online to us in December, since your pledge will be used to match those donations.
Our Campaign Goal
At The AVOCADO Foundation, our commitment lies in eradicating economic inequalities faced by youth, entrepreneurs, and non-profit organisations from underrepresented communities. We aim to raise £10,000 to support our mission of equipping women with essential entrepreneurship knowledge and skills.
The Big Give Christmas Challenge
Funds raised through The Big Give Christmas Challenge will enable us to deliver comprehensive entrepreneurship training to 500 women living in poverty and low-income areas in Nigeria. This training will empower them to provide basic necessities for their families, create jobs, and foster long-term economic stability in their communities.
Our Focus Areas
We are concentrating our efforts in regions with low income and women living in poverty, where monthly earnings can be as low as £14.36 for a teacher. The top three participants with the most viable business ideas will receive seed funding to start or scale up their businesses.
The Impact
Our training programme will empower these women to create and grow their own businesses, providing for their families and fostering long-term economic stability in their communities. This not only benefits the women themselves but also has a ripple effect, improving the economic status of their families and communities.

Meeting this target ensures our participation in this year’s challenge and may even attract a Charity Champion who could match the next £2,197.25 or more which will be donated when the Big Give Christmas Challenge begins on December 3, 2024.

PLEASE NOTE that pledge money will not be collected until after the Big Give Christmas Challenge ends,
and the maximum amount asked will never exceed the sum pledged.
How Much Can I Pledge?
The Big Give requires a minimum pledge of £100. We recognise that this is a substantial amount, but these pledges are essential for us to qualify for the Christmas Challenge campaign and ensure its success. Pledges will be accepted until 5 pm on September 8, 2024. You can fulfill your pledge by making a one-time donation or by raising the amount through a fundraising event at your workplace, school, or local community.
How Will My Pledge Help?
Your pledge funds assist us in two crucial ways: • Boosting Contributions: When supporters know their donations will be matched by a Pledger, they are more inclined to donate to The AVOCADO Foundation during The Big Give week. A single pledge effectively doubles the impact. Conversely, if donations are not matched, potential donors might consider other causes.

Big Give Champion, who would contribute additional funds to our campaign. The potential

To become a Pledger, simply fill out the Big Give’s online form by 11 pm on 8th September 2024

Your Pledge is a commitment to provide match funding to The AVOCADO Foundation. This commitment is contingent on us raising an equivalent amount in online donations during The Big Give campaign – for example, if you pledge £100, you agree to donate up to that amount, provided we receive the same amount in online donations. Please note, the Pledge amount should only be paid to the charity after the Match Funding Campaign concludes on 10th December 2024, and before the Pledge deadline on 17th January 2025. Additionally, Pledgers should refrain from making online donations to The AVOCADO Foundation during the Match Funding Campaign to ensure their pledge effectively matches other contributions
